Art Fair Comes To Paris
The 47th Annual Paris Art Fair comes to Love Civic Center Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm. Vendors, exhibitors, artists and concessions will fill up the inside and outside of the civic center. The entire family will find activities including carnival-style games and bounce houses for the kids along with live demonstrations and an antique car show.
Paris Man Sentenced To 30 Years For Third DWI
47-year-old Leslie Gene Goodman of Paris was sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of his 3rd DWI charge. Goodman was accused of hitting a telephone pole with the pickup he was driving in February 2006 and running from the scene. Evidence revealed a blood alcohol level more than three times the legal limit. Goodman was arrested in 1991 and 1999 for DWI charges and also spent time in prison for theft and aggravated robbery.
Bonham Robbery Suspect Arrested
Bonham police arrested 42-year-old Rebecca Eilene McGregor Thursday for the robbery of the Bonham Fuel and Food Wednesday night. Authorities say McGregor handed the clerk a note that said, “Give me the money, I’ve got a gun” , took the money and left in a car. Police found the car at the Bonham Inn and arrested McGregor who will be charged with aggravated robbery.
Mayo Gets Life In Mineola Sex Club Case
A Smith County jury spent less than 6 minutes deciding on a guilty verdict for Shauntel Mayo in the Mineola child sex club case. The jury then sentenced Mayo to life in prison. She was convicted of two counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of organized crime. Mayo will not be eligible for parole for at least 25 years.
Oldest Captive Gorilla Gets Birthday Party
A four-layer fruit cake was part of the celebration Thursday at the Dallas Zoo as "Jenny" the gorilla celebrated her 55th birthday. Experts say Jenny is recognized as the world's oldest living gorilla in captivity.
Texas Deals With Flood Of Concealed Handgun Licenses
The Texas Department of Public Safety is hiring temporary workers to help deal with a flood of requests for concealed handgun licenses. The Houston Chronicle reports the backlog may be, in part, over newly strengthened privacy laws for Texas gun owners.
Child Abuser Gets 14 Life Sentences
24-year-old Mojica Carmona was sentenced to 14 life sentences Thursday for abusing his three children. Police say the San Marcos man inflicted at least 60 bite marks that left permanent scars all over their bodies. Beatings also left the children with more than 20 broken bones, most of which went untreated. The children also had multiple bruises, burns and lacerations.
Illegal Immigrant Guilty Of Killing Cop
An illegal immigrant from Mexico was convicted of shooting to death 40-year-old Houston policeman Rodney Johnson during a traffic stop in 2006. 34-year-old Juan Quintero-Perez had been deported in 1999 but slipped back in the country. Johnson was shot four times in the head after arresting Quintero-Perez for driving without a license. He could get the death penalty.

The Northeast Texas Community College Men's Rodeo Team brought home its second straight National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) Southern Region championship title last week as it wrapped up the regular season at Wharton County Junior College. NTCC finished the season with a comfortable 496-point lead over second place Panola College and secured spots for a full team of six student athletes to compete at the NIRA College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) in Caspar, Wyoming June 15-21. "We are thrilled to be sending a full team to the CNFR again this year. This is our chance to represent NTCC and our area on a national stage," Chad Henry, NTCC Rodeo Team Coach, said.
